Anthony K.C. Cheung (張建中)
Anthony was interested in electrical and mechanical engineering since he was a child, and grew up working in this field, serving as project manager in several large corporations. His interest in sustainability and green technologies, especially in aquaponics, led him to research and develop a fish and vegetable symbiosis system adaptable to the Hong Kong situation.
His other interest since childhood is singing. In 2007, he finally became a student of Cantonese opera singing under the tutelage of Master Lau Wing-Chuen in Toronto. After relocating to Hong Kong, he enrolled in the "Amway Cantonese Opera and Dramatic Arts" certificate course of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional and Continuing Education of the Open University. Since then, he has extensive experience singing on stage. In 2018, he participated in the 3rd "Cantonese Opera Exchange Exhibition and Singing Contest among Zhenzheng, Zhuhai, Hong Kong and Macau" and won the competition. In recent years, he has devoted himself almost entirely to the study of Cantonese opera singing and accompaniment.
His interest in Cantonese opera extends from what happens on stage to what goes on behind the scenes. He is the technical director of U Sing Cantonese Opera Pavilion. He actively participated in the preparation of the concert that marked the 100th Anniversary of Master Wang Yue-Sang in 2019. He is one of the principal singers at all MVOH concerts.
